One of the best things you can do for your pet is to keep him or her healthy. And one of the easiest and least expensive ways to do that is by bringing your pet into our Toronto hospital for regular exams and if needed, vaccinations. We recommend exams on all exotic animals every six months.
The veterinarians and animal health technicians at our Toronto hospital are trained to provide expertise in the following fields: • Medicine and Surgery • Preventive Medicine • Nutritional Counselling • Geriatric Medicine • Dentistry • Behavioural Advice • Euthanasia Counselling
The simplest way you can help keep your pet healthy is through regular medical assessments. This is particularly true for exotic pets as they are very good at hiding illness to a degree that often when they start showing signs of being sick, they have likely been sick for days, and in some cases much longer. We recommend having a physical examination done on your birds, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, and other exotics at least every six months.
Twice annual routine health examinations are recommended for your pet bird. The veterinarians at our Toronto clinic will give him or her a complete physical examination, trim the beak and nails as needed, and trim the wings if desired to limit flight. We will do our best to answer all of your questions. Wellness testing is done yearly to assess your bird “inside.”
Our veterinarians are experienced in providing specialized care and treatment for exotic companion mammals, including, but not limited to: rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, gerbils, hedgehogs, degus and sugar gliders. We understand their specialized physiology and are aware of their unique health needs and can provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services, as well as counselling on nutrition, behaviour, and general care.
Reptiles and amphibians are a group of very extraordinary pets. Their exothermic or “cold-blooded” nature gives them a very unique set of requirements that are normally not considered in keeping their feathered or furry counterparts. This can make keeping these animals as pets very exciting, but to the inexperienced, it can also lead to severe life threatening problems. Our doctors and staff at our Toronto clinic have an intimate knowledge of the needs, physiology and health of these species.
Our knowledgeable staff and our Toronto facilities allow us to deal with a variety of medical conditions that your bird, rabbit, rodent, reptile or other exotic pet may experience. We hope we do not have to see you or your pet for an emergency, but if we do, we are equipped to handle the situation. In some cases, your pet may require hospitalization and further diagnostic tests. Below are some of the medical services we offer in more detail.
We are happy and proud to announce the availability of MLS Laser Therapy now at The Links Road Animal & Bird Clinic!
We provide most surgical services at our Toronto hospital including routine spays and neuters, soft-tissue surgeries and orthopedic surgeries. Occasionally, we refer our patients to specialists (board certified veterinary surgeons) to perform complex operations.
Our Toronto clinic provides for all the special needs of birds, rabbits, ferrets, rodents and reptiles while you are away. We cater to most off their special nutritional and health needs. If you have special foods you prefer to be fed, a favourite toy or bed, you may bring them along. Veterinary supervision, exercise and personal attention by our caring, responsible staff ensure your pet is happy in your absence.
We carry a selection of over-the-counter products such as foods and nutritional products for all species, bird and exotic toys, shampoo and skin care products and other pet supplies. You can be assured that the food, treats, toys and other accessories are “vet approved” for your pet.
